Let Lawyer's Aid Service take the hassle out of obtaining the federal taxpayer ID called the employer identification number (EIN for short) for your or your client's company, estate, or trust. Most banks require an EIN in order for your company to set up a bank account, and you will need an EIN if you have employees.

94 minutes—an hour and a half—is the IRS's own estimate in its EIN instruction sheet of how long it takes a person, on average, to study applying for an EIN, fill out the form, and mail it in, never mind the time waiting on hold if you file by phone. (Applying by mail takes 4-5 weeks, according to the IRS instructions.) A busy professional needs a quicker, more reliable way.

By spending 5 minutes now, you can obtain your federal tax ID through Lawyer's Aid Service. We know the EIN process thoroughly and can usually have it to you by next business day.

You'll receive the new EIN by phone, email, or fax, whichever you choose, and a follow-up IRS SS-4 form from us in the mail. It couldn't be simpler.

Taxpayer ID (EIN) tips

  • Since the EIN is federal, we can get it for you no matter what state your business is based in.
  • If your client is a foreign national, we can still get an EIN for him or her. All we need is your client's signature on a copy of the SS-4, which we will prepare.
  • If your entity is a PLLC, choose "LLC" as your entity type. If it's a close corporation, choose "for-profit corporation." If it's a professional close corporation, choose "professional corporation."
  • You generally don’t need a new tax ID number if you are only changing the name of your business or relocating, setting up a “DBA” (doing-business-as name), or operating multiple businesses in multiple locations within that business entity.
  • Usually one person must be listed as the “principal responsible party” for the business: a person who is an owner, CEO, or executor, and so on. That person must have a Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If the responsible party is a business, it must already have its own EIN. A temporarily appointed person (a nominee) cannot be a responsible party, according to the IRS. If you agree to be a responsible party temporarily for an organization that is not your own, tax liability could result, so that’s inadvisable.
